Amazon said it would take 1-2 months to receive, but I got it in just over a week, and I am glad I took the risk of playing the waiting game (loving immediate gratification like most people!). Having used several DBT manuals (Linehan's, Matthew McKay's, and Cathy Moonshine's), I can say that I am extremely pleased to add this to my "toolbox." This book has many skills not covered in other DBT manuals and is expanded in that sense, not in the sense of being overly verbose. I appreciate clear and concise explanations that don't bog me down (or bog down clients I assign bibliotherapy to). I also liked the worksheets and guidelines for many recommended DBT practices, again finding them to explained in practical rather than academic ways. This book will no doubt help DBT therapists (and non-DBT therapists who teach skills) and might be a great resource for people looking to understand DBT skills without a therapist. The only drawback I can think of is not having an included disk to make copies from (in fairness, most manuals don't). This "extra" would decrease time at the copy machine! If you're into DBT or skill-building, this book is highly recommended!

I attended to a training seminar in DBT last month (mostly an introduction to DBT). I was very excited about what I learned and how I could apply the skills training to my practice. My problem was that I could receive only limited information on the application of the skills training with my clients. I got on Amazon and searched for a book that could walk me through each of the skills so I could learn it, understand it, and then teach it to my clients. This is the PERFECT solution to my problem. The language is very easy to understand and it groups the skills in logical and easy to follow modules. I've adopted some of the skills myself in my personal life and have enjoyed the benefits. All of the clients I've used this with have very much appreciated the skills.
My only wish, as with other reviews, is that the book came with all of the worksheets on CD so I didn't have to make so many copies. Overall, a great resource for those who want to use DBT with their clients and haven't had a ton of formal training in the therapy mode. I imagine it would be great for the general population who would like to learn mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal skills on their own without the help of a therapist.
