For AP World History, I had a weak teacher and a hard textbook, so
Barron's was really the only thing I had to get me ready for the exam.
It's longer and more detailed than other guides, and I know some
students don't like that. But I was glad to have the extras -- by the
time I got through this book, I knew I could handle anything on the
test, which I ended up blowing away. It might not be the best thing
for last-minute crammers, but I'd recommend it for anyone else.

Length: This book is too long to be reviewed in 1-2 weeks. While it is very helpful in helping you understand the main ideas of each civilization and time period etc., it's just too much to review from. I would recommend following the instructions in this book, and study it throughout the year, while reading the actual textbook. (This could perhaps replace a textbook.) Barron's chapter order is similar to that of my AP textbook (
World Civilizations: The Global Experience, Combined Volume (6th Edition)), and can be really helpful for the times you're not feeling like reading the entire textbook chapter. But if you're looking for a book to cram on, I'd suggest
Kaplan AP World History 2012 or
Cracking the AP World History Exam, 2012 Edition (College Test Preparation) (I didn't purchase 5 Steps to a 5). Kaplan is very easy to read, and is the shortest. PR is slightly longer than Kaplan, and tries to make some funny analogies.
Practice tests: Was definitely more difficult than the 2012 AP exam's questions. The review questions at the end of the units were pretty helpful. My biggest criticism is that many of the test questions were straight-fact-based instead of being comparative.
