From the author of the number-one New York Times and number-one audio bestseller The Millionaire Messenger, an electrifying and inspiring work that provides the keys to motivating yourself to satisfy your highest, most essential creative and intellectual needs.
In the hyper-connected, hyper-digitized world in which we are living, the time has come to revise Abraham Maslow's classic "hierarchy of needs" a pyramid of human drives that places the basic needs of safety and sustenance at the bottom. Burchard, a world-renowned motivational speaker and best-selling author, makes a compelling case that it's time for an entirely new approach to understanding what drives human ambition and achievement today; it's time to change the conversation about what it takes to succeed and feel alive and fulfilled in a stressful, chaotic, distracted world.
In The Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives that Make You Feel Alive, Burchard, using pioneering studies from the fields of positive psychology and neuroscience, as well as great stories from his own experience, identifies the ten simple drives of human emotion and happiness: Control, Competence, Congruence, Caring, Connection, Change, Challenge, Creative expression, Contribution, and Consciousness. The Charge provides the keys to understanding and activating these drives in clear and concrete ways that will inspire and help everyone find the one thing we all are searching for: more life in our lives.

Caged, comfortable, charged. These three words grabbed my attention the moment I began reading The Charge, Brendon Burchard's most recent book.
Although I do live what I would consider a relatively "charged" life, Brendon presents an interesting perspective to various areas of our lives; personal, professional, physical, spiritual and emotional are but a few of the many areas he asks the reader to evaluate.
From the first chapter to the last, Brendon challenges the reader to live a more impassioned life.
To get the most out of The Charge it is imperative the reader give it more than a cursory read through.
With each word I read I took a deep look at the areas of my life where I may not be fully Charged.
I do know I live a much more charged life than most. A quick trip to any mall or grocery store confirms this. My 23 year relationship that is deeply fulfilling, loving and passionate confirms this. My health being the best it has been in decades confirms this. The excitement I feel knowing I am contributing to my clients and customers lives in a positive way is yet another confirmation of this. The joy I feel every time I do my volunteer work at a local senior center again confirms my life is charged.
But digging deep reveals areas and times when I may not be as charged as I desire.
So what is The Charged Life. To fully understand The Charged Life it is beneficial to look at The Caged and The Comfortable Life.
The following definitions are directly out of The Charged Life book.
The Caged Life
People live their lives caged either in the past or in the expectations of others. Their identities are trapped in a tight box of beliefs about what is possible for them. They live a restricted life.
