Porting cylinder heads is an art and a science. It’s like sculpting a piece of clay into a glorious final form and, therefore, it demands the right tools, skills, and application of knowledge. With 50 years of experience, David Vizard explains the principles, philosophy, and techniques for extracting maximum performance from cylinder heads.

I think most of us power junkies will agree that without an optimal cylinder head, no camshaft or virtually anything else will allow the engine to reach it's true output potential.
David's new cyinder head book shows you how to get your heads as close to optimal as your casting will allow. This book is full of golden nuggets. From velocity mapping and critical calculations to the importance of the correct seat geometry, seat to port radius, getting the air around corners and sizing the port right for the application at hand. There's too much to list here but he also goes into crevis volumes, flame travel, tools and equipment, safety, putting it all together... There's a ton of new material here.
I'm glad he devoted an entire book to this subject. This is a must have and it was well worth the wait!

I had high hopes while waiting for this book to be delivered (2 Months).
I have read thru it now about 4 times and I keep coming up with the same thing,
"Where's The Beef"? This book is supposed to be a guide on how to Port and Flow Test Cylinder Heads, but instead it goes into great detail on air-flow dynamics and theory with plenty of charts and graphs and plenty of pictures of all of the major after-market cylinder heads. While it is very obvious that the author knows what he is talking about, his writings are written for a whole different group of readers.
The book should be renamed, "The Principles of Air Flow Dynamics". I think this is all useful information, but I've given up on trying to find anywhere in this book that will actually show you how to port a cylinder head, build a flow bench, any kind of technique, any kind of example of a basic procedure other than a few pictures of what a porting job looks like. The Author does go into detail comparing the different heads and some of the original chevy intake runners. This works is a obvious compilation of information of Mr. Vizards college course's on air-flow dynamics. Come on David, I know you and your guys have ported hundreds of heads over the years. Why is it that you can't give us that knowledge? It's still a secret to me....Befor I start carving on my $1000.00 Heads I'm going to need alot more info than is contained in this book. I will give him credit for 2 other books on rebuilding small block chevys, He is pretty much spot on. But this one, LOL.
