I read that in 1 day, but it's not really enough to start building apps - it might be enough if you need to use python for copying some files around or prepare really basic script. For me it was waste of money.
Then I start reading the Learning Python by Mark Lutz, but it's 1600 pages and not really nice to read after first 200 either.
The best book I had after that, Dive Into Python 3.
You need some good basics in programming, but it's diving straight to what you need to know to really start programming with python. Really nice read (I had Kindle edition, worth buying).

With this book you will actually learn the basics of python in day. I have experience programming in other languages, but was asked to learn python for a project at work and needed something to help jump start my progress with the language. This book was absolutely perfect for that use. The book covers the basics you need to be successful with any language: defining functions, creating and accessing lists, working with loops and statements; all in a manner that is easy to read and understand. After finishing the book you won't be able to do everything in python, but you'll have the knowledge base to understand tutorials you may find online or in other books. I will definitely be using the "In a Day" series again if I need to learn another language quickly.
