It seems that almost daily a new Paleo Book comes out on the market. Whether it is printed, an ebook, or kindle they are popping up all over the place. Through the sea of resources, the truly passionate, dedicated, and selfless authors create much bigger waves that travel further. As that last sentence resonates in your brain, it is important to understand that those waves are bigger and last longer because that are packed full of QUALITY INFORMATION.
Hayley and Bill have been in this Paleo book movement since the beginning and built a solid foundation with their best seller Make it Paleo: Over 200 Grain Free Recipes For Any Occasion and soon to be best seller Gather, the Art of Paleo Entertaining. This amazing new book has done nothing less than fortified their already bulletproof base. The passion, sweat, and tears that went into this invaluable resource is evident with every page turn. This book on it's own has the power to change the world and make it a healthier place. Couple that with their earlier referenced Cookbooks that deserve to be in an art show and you have a insurmountable number of recipes to conquer. Something in the ballpark of 400 simple yet elegant recipes that once started will create an unstoppable snowball that is rolling towards a healthier you in all aspects of life.
This book is broken down into 3 parts so you don't have to read cover to cover, you can use this as your health transformation bible.
Part 1: This covers the basics of the Paleo diet.
I really hate to speak negatively about a person's book but I think you should look elsewhere for help with Paleo cooking. This book is designed such that you use a weekly shopping list (4 total) and then prepare all your meals from a plan. If you don't care about the plan/shopping list aspect then my review does not apply to you particularity if you like cookbooks with great pictures (although you should look to the author's other book probably). In a nut shell this book has plenty of editing errors (examples below) and you really need to just put in the work to find appealing recipes and make your own shopping list. With this book you will go shopping and then not want to eat some percentage of what's planned. I was hoping for a plan so I didn't have to think (busy with work, small kids, keeping the house from falling down, exercise...) but ultimately I was trying to force myself into eating ground lamb and asparagus for breakfast after eating a salad the night before that didn't appeal. When you are making a major diet change, eating a couple meals in a row that don't suit your particular taste is rather demoralizing. If you pick out meals that sound appetizing to you (and this book has some good recipes no doubt) then you have a greater chance of being successful.
1. Shopping list week 1 does not reconcile with week 1 meals
-list indicates 4 lbs ground pork, but recipes call for 4.5 lbs.
-list indicates one yellow squash but recipes call for 2
2. Recipes can be cryptic. Skillet chicken leg quarters step 1 asks you to preheat the oven, but then you don't use the oven!
3. Words spelled correctly but completely out of context in sentence.
